Meet Marcy: From All Saints to Duchesne…Eight Years of Growth with SAVE
Meet Marcy, a senior at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart who has been part of SAVE for an incredible eight years! She first joined SAVE’s Academic Mentoring Program at All Saints Catholic School, where she participated in college readiness sessions at UNO. When she entered high school, Marcy joined our Follow Through Program and became one of the very first students to participate when it launched. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of watching her grow into a talented, high-achieving student and an inspiring young woman.
A Relationship Built on Support
When asked about her favorite part of SAVE, Marcy doesn’t hesitate:
“The gossip sessions with my SAVE classmates, Mr. D, and Miss Tania during our biweekly visits!”
Behind the laughter and conversations are moments of real support. One of the most memorable came during her sophomore year, when her scholarship renewal deadline had already passed. Her school contact, Mrs. Parkhurst, alerted SAVE, and Mr. D immediately stepped in. He worked with the school to extend the deadline, then made an emergency house call that Saturday to help Marcy and her mom locate important tax documents. After searching two computers and even calling her mom’s HR department, they submitted everything just in time.
Marcy never missed another scholarship deadline after that. As Mr. D put it:
“The Oklahoma game was a blowout anyway—I’m just glad I could help! Marcy is destined for great things.”
Leading with Dedication and Heart
Marcy’s SAVE journey has always been about more than academics—it’s about opportunity. When she mentioned wanting to join the cheer team but was held back by the cost, SAVE stepped in to remove that barrier. We covered her participation fees, just as we do for all students who want to explore new passions.
Since then, Marcy has been a dedicated member of Duchesne’s cheer team, proudly supporting DASH, Mount Michael, and Creighton Prep athletics. Through cheer, she’s learned teamwork, discipline, and the joy of representing her school, all while maintaining her outstanding academic record.
Excellence in the Classroom and Beyond
Balancing academics and cheer is no small task, but Marcy makes it look easy. She has earned honor roll every year of high school and currently holds an impressive 4.06 GPA. Her favorite class? AP Computer Science, where she excels through focus and determination.
Eyes on the Future
As she prepares for graduation, Marcy has her sights set on becoming a QuestBridge Scholar and earning a full-ride scholarship to a four-year university. With her hard work, leadership, and the continued support of SAVE, we have no doubt she’ll make that dream a reality.
Marcy’s journey is a perfect example of what happens when talent meets opportunity—and we are so proud to have walked beside her every step of the way. 💙
