At a recent session at Bellevue University, BOTH Creighton & Bellevue University’s Volleyball Teams attended and mentored our students. Wow!
Our SAVE students had the incredible opportunity to spend time with both teams, learning firsthand what it takes to become a college student-athlete.Students gathered around tables with two to four volleyball players at each table. The players shared their personal journeys to becoming college athletes, including their experiences, challenges, and the paths that led them to where they are today. They also offered advice and encouragement to our students, reminding them of the importance of setting goals, working hard, and believing in what is possible.
After the conversations, we switched gears and got moving with balloon games designed to help students and athletes get to know one another and share their goals and dreams.
And of course, we couldn't spend time with two volleyball teams without adding a little friendly competition! We headed outside for team challenges that involved getting balloons into designated targets. Students and volleyball players worked together, cheered each other on, and embraced the challenge. The games brought out everyone's competitive spirit while reinforcing the teamwork and communication skills that are so important both on and off the court.
At SAVE, we believe that mentorship is about more than academic support. It's about helping students build relationships and see possibilities for their futures. Connecting with college athletes allows our students to learn from role models who can demonstrate what it looks like to pursue a goal. These interactions help make college feel more accessible and give students the opportunity to imagine themselves in new roles and environments. It’s why our programs are intentionally designed to incorporate partnerships and collaborations such as this one…it can change the course of a student’s life!
A huge thank-you to the Creighton University and Bellevue University volleyball teams for sharing their time, experiences, and encouragement with our students. Your willingness to connect, inspire, and have fun with our SAVE community made this day truly special!
